Bhakti Philosophy

Everyone is looking for love. Everyone is looking for peace. Everyone is looking for happiness. But we only get glimpses of these basic human necessities. Why? Because this world is not our real home. We are actually spiritual beings, living in a material world.

This age is called the Age of Quarrel and Hypocrisy. Our lives are very busy and everywhere we can hear that many people want to stop this kind of “busy-busy”-life. They want to love, be loved, find happiness and find peace.

But we are always using our mind. We are all influenced by the mind. And it takes us to so many places. Because of this mind we are not peaceful. Because the mind cannot fix itself on one thing. If this mind can be fixed on one thing, you will become peaceful. Everybody knows this. We have to check how the mind is moving us and taking us to so many places. “You do this. You do this. Now you do this. Make this project, this planning, then this!” There is no fixed goal for the mind. It is always running for material things because it has no taste for the highest pure goodness. We can  reach the mode of  goodness with this mind, leaving ignorance and passion behind. But we cannot come to the stage of pure goodness. When we will try to fix ourselves spiritually then life can change. Peace will come. Real happiness will come. We will reach the real goal and this is the highest relationship with the Lord. The mind has to be controlled and fixed on the Supreme Personality. We don’t know how and say, “I have so many things to do, so much work, how can I fix my mind on the Supreme Lord?” That’s only because we ourselves want to be the boss and not a servant. Only as a servant we can fix our mind there. We are instruments. What He will do, He will do. To fix the mind on Him and to fix it on our spiritual consciousness is our real goal. This is the highest knowledge. If anything is important then this: How to fix our mind on the spiritual master, how to fix ourselves on Krishna? If you practice, you can fix yourself on these things. If not, then always this mind will take you to the senses and thus to material things. Being fixed and steady is the beauty of spiritual life. And this comes only by the mercy of praying to the Lord and by chanting. If this is happening in our life, then life changes. Knowledge and realization are important for this fixing and both make it easy. (from “The beauty of Real Love”)

It is said:

“śrī-kṛṣṇa-caitanya prabhu doyā koro more                                                                      tomā binā ke doyālu jagat-saḿsāre”

“My dear Lord Caitanya, please be merciful to me, because who can be more merciful than Your Lordship within these three worlds?”

We all are very fortunate that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu appeared on this earth just recently. He is the most merciful incarnation of Sri Sri Radha and Krishna combined. Here in this song “Sri” comes before “Krishna”. “Sri” here means Srimati Radhika. So, Krishna appeared as Sriman Mahaprabhu with the mood of Srimati Radhika. What He bestowed to the living entities, nobody has ever given before.   (from a lecture in Germany 2012)

anarpita-carim cirat karunayavatirnah kalau

harih purata-sundara-dyuti-kadamba-sandipitah

sada hrdaya-kandare sphuratu vah saci-nandanah (C.C. Adi-lila 1.4)

“May that Lord Who is known as the son of Srimati Sacidevi be transcendentally situated in the innermost chambers of your heart. Resplendent with the radiance of molten gold, He has appeared in the Age of Kali by His causeless mercy to bestow what no incarnation ever offered before: the most sublime and radiant spiritual knowledge of the highest taste of service to Sri Sri Radha and Krishna.”

He came to give us the possibility to love Krishna in the mood of the inhabitants of Vraja and most of all in the mood of the pure cowherd-maidens, headed by Krishna´s most beloved Srimati Radhika. He didn´t consider any qualifications and He gave away freely this purest of love to God.

He also told us how to realize this love. It is only possible by chanting the Holy Names of God:

harer nama harer nama
harer namaiva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva
nasty eva gatir anyatha

“‘In this Age of Kali there is no other means, no other means, no other means for self-realization than chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name of Lord Hari.” ( CC Adi-lila 17.22)

„Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna,
Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare,
Hare Rama, Hare Rama,
Rama Rama, Hare Hare.“

These names will take the soul on a journey towards the final goal: pure love for God.

Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu Himself didn´t write any books about bhakti-philosophy. He gave this monumental task to his most intimate followers, the Goswamis of Vrindavana, especially to Srila Sanatana Goswami, Srila Rupa Goswami and Srila Raghunatha das Goswami.

Srila Sanatana Goswami was instructed to write books about “sambandha-tattva”, about the knowledge of our relationship with Sri Sri Radha Krishna.

Srila Rupa Goswami received the mission to elaborate in his books on “abhidheya-tattva”, on the path of bhakti, so that all devotees can follow this path of love easily.

Srila Raghunatha das Goswami was instructed to write about the highest goal on the path of bhakti, “prayojana-tattva”, culminating in the service to Srimati Radharani, “radha-dasyam”.
